🐾 AKC Scent Work Training

AKC Scent Work is a fun, rewarding activity that taps into your dog’s most amazing talent — their sense of smell! In this sport, dogs learn to search for specific odors hidden in a variety of environments, just like professional detection dogs — but in a positive, supportive, and playful way.

Whether your dog is a curious puppy, a confident adult, or a senior with energy to burn, AKC Scent Work offers mental enrichment, boosts confidence, enhances teamwork, and strengthens your bond.

🐕 Why Scent Work Training?

In AKC Scent Work, your dog will learn to find specific target odors (Birch, Anise, Clove, and Cypress) hidden in different search environments including:

  • Container Searches (boxes, totes, bags)
  • Interior Searches (inside rooms or buildings)
  • Exterior Searches (outdoors with natural distractions)
  • Buried Searches (hidden beneath the surface)

  • Your dog will indicate the scent in a way you’ve trained — pawing, sitting, or another trained alert — and you’ll learn to read their body language to make the call to the judge
